Dog Teaches Faith

Christians can learn to grow in faith from interactions with their dogs

Master who sees farther than me and knows more than me gets me to the right destination, much better than when I pull and seek my way.

Cody has a sense of direction. When taken about a mile away from home and allowed to go the way he sees fit, he points directly back home. It may not seem direct for people because we have to navigate houses, city blocks, and other structures. Yet, on the compass, Cody tends to get the direction right most of the time.

The problems run when he cannot see the fences that block us or rivers that require a bridge to cross. He may have an idea of where to go, but the master needs to give nudges here and there to go the right way.

There are times when the master had to pick up Cody to get him around risky places with no roads. There are times when the master allowed him to go where he wants, then at the dead end, turn back around and lead him to a better way.

I learn from Cody that it is probably better not to pull and instead go along with wherever the master wants to go. He always gets me to where He wants to go, which is the best destination for me. My direction can lead me to dead ends and require me to backtrack. Instead of pulling and thinking I know the way, I should let the wiser Father, who loves me to do the guiding while I follow.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
